Ingredients for Dry Rub for Ribs
First, gather your ingredients:
- 1 rack baby back ribs
- ¼ brown sugar
- 3 Tablespoons Old Bay seasoning
- ¼ onion (optional)
- barbecue sauce: You can use any barbecue sauce — pick your favorite!
Making Old Bay Ribs
Rinse the rack of ribs and pat them dry. If the ribs have a membrane, remove it by cutting it in the corner and peeling it away. However, many ribs don’t come with this membrane, especially grocery store ribs, so you likely won’t have to worry about that.
In a small bowl, combine the Old Bay, brown sugar, salt and pepper in a bowl and then use it to coat the ribs. Wrap the dry-rubbed ribs in saran wrap and allow them to marinate in the refrigerator overnight, but no more than 12 hours.

When you’re ready to cook the ribs, preheat the oven to 275°. Remove the plastic wrap and re-wrap the ribs in aluminum foil. (If you’re using onions, chop them up and simply place on top of the ribs as you see in the photo below before you wrap them with foil.)
Then, place the ribs on a baking sheet or baking pan and allow them to cook slowly for 2 – 3 hours. After two hours, check them for tenderness (they should easily come apart with a fork) then check every 20 minutes until they are tender.

Once the ribs are cooked, brush them with your favorite barbecue sauce and broil about 5 minutes. Flip the ribs over and brush them with more barbecue sauce. Broil another five minutes.

Serve warm with extra barbecue sauce.
