Watermelon limeade is a refreshing light and sweet drink for the summer, when fresh watermelons abound. Here are the perfect proportions for just a few ingredients.
Course: Drinks
Keyword: lime, watermelon
Servings: 4
Blender
wire mesh sieve
Mixing Bowl
pitcher
juicer
Sauce Pan
- ¼ - ½ watermelon
- 4 limes (to yield 8 tablespoons lime juice)
- ½ cup simple syrup
Cut watermelon into cubes. Add about 2 - 3 cups of cubed watermelon to the blender. Pulse. If watermelons don't blend easily, take a wooden spoon and stir them. Once the watermelons start blending, they will blend quickly.
Continue to add chunks of watermelons about 1 -2 cups at a time until you have blended a 1 liter of watermelon juice.
Place the wire mesh strainer over the mixing bowl and strain the pulp from the watermelon juice. Shaking the strainer helps it drain faster. Transfer your filtered watermelon juice to a pitcher.
Cut four limes in half and juice. You should have about 8 tablespoons. Add to the pitcher and stir.
To make simple syrup, heat sugar and water in a 1-to-1 ratio in a sauce pan. Once the sugar is dissolved, remove it from the heat and allow it to cool. Then add 2 tablespoons to the watermelon lime juice, stir, and taste. Continue adding simple syrup until it reaches your desired sweetness level.
Garnish glasses with a wedge of lime or sprig of fresh mint.
