Basil Aioli
Basil aioli is a fresh way to add herbs and flavors to mayonnaise for a delicious dipping sauce. Use as a sandwich spread or sauce to top many of your favorite dishes.
- ½ cup mayonnaise
- 3 Tablespoons chopped fresh basil
- ½ Tablespoon lemon juice
- 3-4 cloves garlic
- ½ teaspoon lemon zest
- salt and pepper
- olive oil (to coat garlic cloves)
Finely chop fresh basil to yield about 3 tablespoons.
To roast the garlic cloves, place the cloves on a sheet of aluminum foil and coat with a drizzle of olive oil. Seal the foil into a pouch and roast the cloves for about 25 - 30 minutes at 400°.
In a small bowl, combine the mayonnaise, chopped basil, lemon juice, lemon zest and salt and pepper. Squeeze the roasted garlic cloves and mash and stir into the basil aioli.
Garnish with a sprig of fresh basil. Keep refrigerated.
